GCB roofs typically support systems of 30 to 90 kWp, well above the size of a standard landed home. At the 2026 residential range of S$1,200 to S$2,000 per kWp, that puts most GCB installations in a wide band depending on roof area, roof type and panel choice. Larger systems usually sit toward the lower end of the per-kWp range because fixed costs spread across more panels.

A GCB system generates roughly 1,150 to 1,300 kWh per kWp each year in Singapore conditions. A 66 kWp array produces in the region of 82,000 kWh a year, enough to offset a large share of a GCB's demand. Electricity you use directly is worth about S$0.35 per kWh against the current SP tariff, and surplus you export earns about S$0.26 per kWh under the Simplified Credit Treatment scheme. Payback for well-sited GCB systems often lands within the shorter end of the typical 3 to 6 year range because self-consumption is high.

Why GCB roofs need a tailored design

GCBs rarely offer one simple roof plane. Complex hip roofs, dormers, rooftop terraces, HVAC condenser banks and pool plant all break up the usable area, and shading from mature trees is common on large plots. Panels are distributed across multiple faces and levels, positioned to stay invisible from street level, and laid out to preserve terraces and outdoor living space. Full-black panels present as a single uniform plane rather than silver gridlines, which keeps a large array visually quiet against tile or metal.
